Motorized Patio Screens in Houston, TX

Houston is a big place, and its homes run from 1920s bungalows to new three-story townhomes to large wooded lots. Outdoor spaces vary just as much: deep porches, small courtyards, balconies, rooftop decks and full outdoor living rooms. Every screen we install is made to measure, so the size and shape of your opening matter less than you might think.

What every Houston patio has in common is the weather: long, humid summers, mosquitoes that hang on well into fall, and afternoon storms that drop a lot of rain in a short time.

No zoning, but plenty of rules

Houston is known for having no zoning code, but that doesn’t mean anything goes. Many neighborhoods have deed restrictions or civic associations that cover exterior changes, and some areas are in historic districts with their own review. Retractable screens are far less permanent than an enclosure, but find out what applies to your property before you commit.

We can provide product specs, color options and photos of how the screens mount, so you have what you need for any approval.

Townhomes, balconies and courtyards

A lot of newer Houston housing is vertical: three-story townhomes with a balcony or rooftop deck instead of a backyard. Those spaces take a beating from sun and wind, and the neighbors are close. A motorized screen across a balcony opening adds shade, privacy and bug protection without closing it in permanently.

Upper-floor installs need solid mounting points and a way to get power to the motor, and townhome HOAs can be strict. We check both at the consultation.

Houston patio screen questions

Do you install screens on balconies and rooftop decks?

Often, yes, as long as there’s a solid structure to mount to at the top and sides of the opening and a way to get power to the motor. Wind exposure is higher up, so we usually recommend a zipper-track system there.
