Retractable Mosquito & Insect Screens for Houston Patios
Houston’s mosquito season is long, and the evenings, when it’s finally cool enough to sit outside, are when the bugs are worst. A retractable insect screen closes in your patio with fine mesh that keeps mosquitoes, flies and gnats out and still lets air and light through.
Unlike a fixed screen enclosure, it rolls out of sight when you don’t need it. When it’s down, the edges ride inside side tracks and a weighted bottom bar rests on the floor, so there is no open gap at the sides for bugs to find.
Why a retractable insect screen beats bug spray
Sealed edges
Side tracks hold the mesh edge, so the screen covers the whole opening rather than hanging loose with gaps at the sides.
Easy to see through
Insect mesh is designed for visibility. From a shaded patio looking out, most people stop noticing it.
Air still moves
Open mesh lets the breeze through, and a ceiling fan works the way it should.
Gone when you want it
On cool, dry days without bugs, roll the screens up and have a fully open patio.
Less blowing in
Lowered screens also cut down on leaves and debris blowing onto the patio.
One button
Lower every screen at once from a remote or wall switch when the sun starts going down.

Mosquito season around Houston
On the Gulf Coast, mosquito season isn’t a few weeks in July. Warm weather comes early and stays late, and standing water after summer storms gives mosquitoes plenty of places to breed. Dusk and early morning are when many of them are most active, which are the same hours you’d want to be on the patio.
Spray, fans and candles help a little. A screen that physically closes off the patio is what works. Because it retracts, you aren’t stuck looking through mesh on the days the bugs aren’t out.

Questions about insect & mosquito screens
Will an insect screen block my view?
Insect mesh is made to be easy to see through, especially from inside a shaded patio looking out toward the light. You’ll notice it more looking in from a bright yard. We bring samples to the consultation so you can see the difference for yourself.
Do mosquito screens keep out no-see-ums?
Biting midges (no-see-ums) are much smaller than mosquitoes, and standard insect mesh won’t stop all of them. If they’re a problem where you live, tell us. We’ll go over the mesh options and what they can and can’t do.
Can insect screens go on my existing patio cover?
Usually, yes. Most installs go on existing covered patios, loggias and solid-roof pergolas. Each opening needs a solid surface to mount to at the top and sides, which we check during the consultation.
